La Boite à Questions - Jasmine Choi

Jasmine Choi answers the questions from the Box of Questions and looks forward to meeting you at the 2016 Flute Convention !

1 > Who is your favorite composer ?
Bach, Mozart, Schumann, Prokofiev, Mahler, and many more. But my favorite of the favorites is surely Mr. Mozart !

2 > What profession would you have had if you weren’t a musician ?
I wish I knew ! There was a time that I was not able to play the flute for half a year because of a nerve-related injury, and I really had no desire what else I’d like to be if not playing the flute. I “could” have done something else, however without much passion, I guess.

3 > Do you have a ritual before going on stage ?
I make sure I bring my flute 🙂

4 > Where can we find you when you are not on stage ?
I often go on a daytime cruise where my lovely husband works in the lake of constance, Austria. Or I go to my favorite restaurant in town called “Maurachbund” where I can hang out with close friends. Or I ride my bike along the lake when the weather is nice.

5 > Your favorite movie?
Before Sunrise, Titanic, and Notthing Hill : timeless romantic films 🙂

6 > A motto ?
Live your life the way You believe in.

7 > Which composer would you like to meet ?
Debussy, Brahms, and Stravinsky. Just to ask them to write more pieces for flute. Unfortunately I cannot revive them, therefore I try to pursuade those young living composers to write more for flute.

8 > On which flute do you play ?
14k gold flute made by David Straubinger. The most satisfying flute I have ever played so far.

9 > Which advice would you give to a young flutist to succeed in this business ?
There is no such right answer to be “successful” in music, or even life in general. It is rather about living everyday to your fullest, with many wonderful friends around you, and be the best of yourself can ever be, in every way.

10 > Which CD might play in loop on your stereo ?
Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Schumann’s Kreisleriana, Mahler’s Symphony No.9, or, some cool Korean pops!

11 > Your favorite hobby ?
Looking at the sunset over the lake of constance with a glass of wine in my balcony. It really feels like heaven. And thank goodness, the sun comes back everyday so that I can repeat this every evening (when I’m home).

I’ll be playing a recital with this incredible guitarist Benjamin Beirs, and I am very excited to meet many of you in Paris ! Hopefully you’re also looking forward to meeting me 🙂
